The Retreat: details!
Are you wondering what we do at the retreat? Let me lay it out for you!
Friday, 3:30-7: every day starts with a walk to settle the dogs (and work on leash skills). We study videos of dogs together during play, refereeing, and tension moments, breaking down the language, so you understand what dogs are saying to each other. We also take a look at what our own dogs are saying in present time.
Saturday: 10:30-4:30: For those who stayed overnight, the day starts a wee bit earlier, with social time, breakfast, and a walk. At 10:30 we start learning about stress signals, hyper-focus or targeting signals, over-excitement, and neutral body language. We apply it to our own dogs, to see what they’re saying while we’re hanging out, learning. Lunch is served, there’s some relaxing time, and then we finish the day looking at photos and videos and translating what’s happening in them, so you learn how to spot it yourself.
Sunday: 10:15-1: We wrap up with how to apply dog language to training: using it to train, as well as knowing when to stop training, or when to change methods based on what your dog is saying, so that no matter what methods you choose, you neither hype your dog up into over-excitement, or stress them out so their brains turn off. This is a shame-free space, so you aren’t going to be lectured regardless of what training methods you prefer. I, for one, have tried them all at one time or another, so you won’t be scolded for trying them, too.
It’s $750 to come stay at the villa on 9 acres of gorgeous land. I’ve put the retreat together with the goal of learning a lot, having a great time, AND feeling rested by the time you leave. You’ll get all of the above, plus all meals included, pack walks, evening videos, more practice at understand your dog in real time, and practice with social skills, manners, or whatever you might be struggling with.
For $475 you can come to the workshop each day, and go home to your own bed at night. This includes pack walks and lunch, and some social time.*
For $250 you can come just Saturday to get the bulk of how our dogs communicate with us (as opposed to each other). This includes a pack walk and lunch.*
If you just want to come Friday and learn how dogs talk to each other, it’s $125. This includes a pack walk and lunch.*
*There are three spots left for people to stay at the retreat; for the rest of these options there is a wait list. I expect at least a couple of people on the wait list will get in; priority is given to those people who want to be there longer. Currently, no one has signed up for the wait list, so the possibility you’ll get in is pretty high!
