The first workshop was great!

Well, Jay and I had our first Translating Dog workshop this past Saturday, and it went beautifully! It was really fun for me to see the looks on peoples’ faces as they realized just how much their dogs were talking. Not communicating unconsciously, but actual, conscious phrases that people can learn.

We’d look at a video at the beginning of a section and people who smile or chuckle. Then I’d dive into teaching that section, using photos and other videos as examples. At the end of the section we’d come back to the initial video, and knowing what they knew, we’d break it down into what the dog was actually saying. Sometimes, it was sweet and the smiles and chuckles would increase. Sometimes it turned out the video hadn’t been that awesome after all, that some of the messages being passed weren’t funny or cute at all, and then I’d hear, “Ohhhhh,” and quick intakes of breath.

Jay kept things moving smoothly in the background, and taught the section on walking. I sneakily watched out the window and could see intense expressions broken by smiling, and dogs that initially were doing pretty good, but were now doing really good.

One person kept saying, “I can’t believe my dog’s just settled. I never would’ve believed this.” One of the dogs was napping during the presentations. (One other than my and Jay’s dogs, that is!)

And the location! Driving down I could feel myself unwinding, even though I hadn’t felt wound up before. You could hear the crash of the ocean, and look out at the fields, trees, and water. The house was really comfortable, and lunch was a hit. (This matters to me, because I made it. Okay, fine, I bought it and then warmed and mixed things, but I did use my own recipe for what I call avocado salad, and a couple of people asked me how I made it.) (Because it’s DELICIOUS.)

Everyone was able to relax and learn in a peaceful area, which was what I’d hoped for.

The usual small hiccoughs occurred. Can an event like this happen without small hiccoughs? I think not. But it was so small and intimate that we all just laughed. People even offered solutions, and things were easy.

We’ve set another one for June 24th. You can get more information at the website: www.TranslatingDog.wordpress.com

I hope you come. It’ll change your world. 😉
